At many concerts the piano is away from you, but last November (2014) we went to see Catherine Marie Charlton play piano at the Brandywine Museum. When thoughts emerge about this post the photo came to mind and names start flowing into my head, and they don’t stop. I am glad the piano is given a whole month. What other instrument do you wish had a month in their honor? Maybe they have one.

But the lingering thought that floated in was about all these musicians learning to play piano. So here is to the teachers, who taught your favorites to play. Imagine that teaching happening. Imagine that teaching not happening.

We had the pleasure of seeing an 85 year old man walk ever so slowly to a piano recently. He sat down and his fingers danced. Here is to those who guided Barry Harris as a young man.

And here is to Barry Harris for spending decades teaching piano.
