Salaam with Taupe letters by Margaret Almon and Wayne Stratz. July 2015

Taupe, that was a new request, and to be honest I had to ask Margaret. “What’s taupe?”

Turns out taupe is a muddy grey. We were in need of some other colors so off we went to buy some glass.

The owner of the shop asks, “Did you find everything you needed?”

We let him know that we did not find a good taupe. I found taupe in my glass library.

Gladly after the search for taupe, we could focus on the honor to once again be asked by a client to create a totem word of a friend. The client chose taupe and purples (now there is a color I can expand upon) because those are the colors she saw in her friend’s house. Salaam is a word of great meaning to her friends. A salutation of peace. Something to celebrate in this world where the few who fight against peace get more attention that those who greet us with, “Salaam.”
